Fire Coordinator Schedules Training Class for New Officers
The Oswego County Fire Coordinator's Office is sponsoring an introductory class for fire officers at the Scriba Fire Station. Classes will meet at 7 p.m. Feb. 2, 4, 9, 11, 16, 23, 25, and March 1 and 8.
Instructor Donald Forbes will teach the "Introduction to Fire Officer" class. The 27-hour course focuses on command and management issues in today's modern fire service. Topics include the role of the company officer, leadership, management, fire service organization, legal issues, communications, health and safety, incident management, emergency response, on-scene management, and strategy and tactics for the single company operation.
"This course replaces the Preparing for Command course that was popular for many years in the fire service," said County Fire Coordinator John Hinds. The class is the first course in a series of three that are now offered by the State Office of Fire Prevention and Control.
"It is an excellent course for the new company officer or for those aspiring to become company officers," he added. "This training covers incident command, leadership issues, strategy, tactics, water supply, communications, and other topics a veteran firefighter will find useful in a review format."
