Get Out & Enjoy Winter Events in Oswego County
Warm up this winter by participating in a variety of activities taking place throughout Oswego County. They're all listed in the "Winter" Calendar of Events distributed by the Oswego County Department of Promotion and Tourism. Here's a sample of events you can enjoy.
4th Annual Great Eastern Whiteout will be held Feb. 6-8, from 8 a.m. to dusk, at the Oswego County Fairgrounds. Antique and vintage snowmobiles will be on display, plus vintage snowmobile rides and racing. Admission is $5 for adults, $2.50 for children 6 to 12 years old, and free for those under 5 years old. Fulton YMCA Fishing Derby takes place Feb. 7, from 12 to 6 p.m., at Lake Neahtahwanta. The derby is open to youth and adults. Cash prizes will be awarded to adults, and savings bonds will be awarded to youths. Admission is $15 for adults, and $10 for youths. For more information call 598-9622.
24th Annual Tug Hill Tourathon 50K/25K will be held Feb. 7, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Winona State Forest in Boylston. It includes a Citizens Race, NYSSRA Point Series Race, and Classical cross-country ski race. Admission will be charged. Sandy Pond Sportsmen's Association 28th Annual Ice Fishing Derby takes place Feb 14 and 15, at 3201 County Route 15. Registration is $5 for the adult division, and $3 for the youth division. Softball-in-the-Snow will be held Feb. 21, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Leighton School and Oswego High School fields. All proceeds will be given to Special Olympics. Admission is $10 per player. For more information call 342-1899.
Family Snowmobile Ride/Cookout takes place Feb. 21, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Winona State Forest in Boylston. Admission is free, donations appreciated. For more information call 387-2245.
George Washington's Birthday Celebration will be held Feb. 22, from 12 to 4 p.m., at Fort Ontario State Historic Site in Oswego. Enjoy living history demonstrations and displays. Admission is a $2 donation to benefit the Friends of Fort Ontario. For more information call 343-4711.
"The Traveler" & "The April Witch" will be performed Feb. 26-29 and March 4-7, at 8 p.m. Thursday-Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday, in Tyler Hall's Waterman Theatre at SUNY Oswego. Wine/Microbrew Tasting and Silent Auction takes place March 5, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., at Fairway Manor in Granby. Admission is a $20 donation to benefit individuals with Alzheimer's disease. For more information call 591-9208.
Health Fair 2004 will be held March 20, from 1 to 4 p.m., at the J.C. Birdlebough High School in Phoenix. There will be informational booths and activities for all ages. Admission is free. For more information call 695-2801.

New Shanghai Circus takes place March 25 at 8 p.m., in Tyler Hall's Waterman Theatre at SUNY Oswego. This circus features some of the best acrobats, contortionists, bicyclists, magicians, and jugglers in the world.
