Oswego County Announces Rabies Clinics Schedule

The Oswego County Health Department will sponsor eight rabies clinics this year, beginning March 31 in Scriba. There will be two clinics at each County Department of Public Works facility in Scriba, Parish, Pulaski and Volney. All clinics will be on Wednesdays from 6 to 8 p.m.

The schedule is:

  • March 31: County highway garage on State Route 104, Scriba.
  • April 21: County highway garage on Dill Pickle Alley, Parish.
  • May 12: County highway garage on County Route 2A, Pulaski.
  • June 16: Bristol Hill solid waste facility, State Route 3, Volney.
  • July 21: County highway garage, State Route 104, Scriba.
  • Aug. 11: Bristol Hill solid waste facility, State Route 3, Volney.
  • Sept. 15: County highway garage, County Route 2A, Pulaski; and
  • Nov. 3: County highway garage, Dill Pickle Alley, Parish.

All dogs, cats and pet ferrets are required by state law to have current rabies shots. Animals may receive their first rabies vaccine at age three months. The first shot protects the animal from rabies for one year. Subsequent shots last for three years. Pet owners should bring their pet's last rabies certificate to the clinic.

The health department requests a $5 donation per animal to help cover the cost of the rabies clinics.

Any person or pet that comes in contact with a sick or suspicious-acting animal should be reported to the county health department as soon as possible. A bite or scratch on the skin should be washed immediately with soap and water.

For more information, call the health department, weekdays at 349-3564 or 800-596-3200, ext. 3564. In an emergency during evenings, weekends, or holidays, call the health department's answering service at 341-0086.
