Advanced Firefighter Training Class Begins in March
The New York State Advanced Firefighter Course will be offered at the Niagara Mohawk Training Center in Oswego starting Monday, March 15. Classes will meet from 7 to 10 p.m. Monday evenings through April 19, with an additional all-day session Saturday, April 17.
John Hinds, Oswego County Fire Coordinator, said the 24-hour course builds on skills and material covered in state courses Basic 91 and Intermediate 92, which are pre-requisites for taking this class.
"Topics covered in the class will include incident management, building materials and collapse hazards, special rescue, hydrant operations and flows, hose tools, foam operations, flammable liquids and gases, alarm systems, fire cause and origin, communications, pre-planning, strategy and tactics, and special emergency situations," said Hinds.
Classes which may be substituted for the Basic 91 and Intermediate 92 pre-requisites are the completion of Essentials, Fire Behavior and Arson Awareness, and Initial Fire Attack courses.
Pre-registration is required for the advanced firefighter course. Contact the Oswego County Fire Coordinator's Office at 591-9142 or 1-877-675-1588 for registration information and further details.
