Mexico Wins Oswego County Drinking Water Contest
The village of Mexico re-gained its title in Oswego County's best-tasting drinking water contest this year. The contest was held May 1 at the Lake Ontario Bird Festival at Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Resort in Mexico.
This year, Mexico edged out Pulaski with 102 points to Pulaski's 97 points. The city of Fulton came in third with 90 and the city of Oswego came in fourth with 71 points. The winner in 2003 was Pulaski.
The blind test contest is coordinated by the environmental division of the Oswego County Health Department. People were asked to vote for their first and second choices of water samples. First choice votes were given two points and second choice votes were given one point.
Mexico's water will be entered in a regional competition. Finalists from the regional competitions will compete later this summer for the state's best-tasting drinking water, a title held by Mexico in 2002 and 1991.
