Free Kid's Fishing Clinics in July
Four free fishing clinics for kids will be held at two sites in Oswego County during the month of July.
Selkirk Shores State Park in Pulaski will host three fishing clinics. Capt. Troy Creasy of High Adventure Charters will teach a hands-on class on the different types of fishing, casting and bait techniques Friday, July 2, at 2 p.m.
Capt. Bill Van Wormer of Lucky Dutchman Charters will teach a clinic at 1 p.m. Friday, July 16, at 1 p.m. Capt. Todd Sheltra of Strike Zone Charters will present the last clinic Thursday, July 22 at 2 p.m.
For the sessions at Selkirk Shores State Park, youth are asked to bring their fishing equipment. A limited supply of rods and reels will be available. All children under age 12 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Adults and youth age 16 and older must possess a current New York State fishing license to fish.
The clinics are free. Admission to the park is $7 per vehicle. Selkirk Shores State Park is located at 7701 State Route 3 in the Town of Richland. For more information, contact the park office at (315) 298-5737.
Douglaston Salmon Run in Pulaski and the Salmon River Lake Ontario Steelhead Association will host a youth fly-fishing seminar at Douglaston Salmon Run Saturday, July 17 from 8 a.m. to noon. Parents or guardians may bring two youth between the ages of 10 and 15 to the session. Participants will learn the fundamentals of fishing and instruction unique to fly fishing, such as casting and rigging.
The seminar is free and pre-registration is required. To register, email firstname.lastname@example.org. Participants will need to bring bug repellant, sunscreen, and wading boots with cleats or studs.
