Oswego County Pro-Am Salmon and Trout Tournament Lands Gander Mountain As Major Sponsor

OSWEGO -- The tenth anniversary of the Oswego County Pro-Am Salmon and Trout Team Tournament will be held July 9 and 10 in the ports of Oswego and Mexico. While celebrating its anniversary, the tournament has landed a new major sponsor and a new organizing committee.

Gander Mountain, a national outdoor retailer that specializes in hunting, fishing and camping gear is the tournament's new major sponsor.

"We are very happy to have Gander Mountain as Oswego County's Pro Am major sponsor. It's a great opportunity for Gander Mountain to be in the forefront of the over 200 anglers who compete in our tourney," said Capt. Troy Creasy, a member of the Pulaski-Eastern Shore Chamber of Commerce. The Pulaski-Eastern Shore Chamber of Commerce is taking over as the organizing committee for the event from the Oswego County Department of Promotion and Tourism.

Also new for 2004 is a sportsmen flea market to be held Wednesday, July 7 from 1 to 7 p.m. at the tournament headquarters tent behind the Best Western Captain's Quarters Hotel, 26 E. First St., Oswego.

Teams will have the chance to win over $15,000 in cash prizes, with $5,000 going to the winner in the professional division and $2,000 going to the winner in the amateur division. Payout prizes for both divisions are based on a 50-team minimum. Teams placing up to 10th place in each division quality for cash prizes.

Both professional and amateur teams compete in the two-day tournament. Last year, 30 amateur teams and 45 professional teams fished in the tournament. Anglers from Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey and Vermont competed in the event.

Teams can fish out of either the port of Mexico or the port of Oswego. Weigh-ins both days, the tournament barbecue and awards ceremony will all be held at the tournament headquarters tent behind the Best Western Captains Quarter's Hotel in Oswego.

The deadline for mail-in registration is Friday, July 2. Walk-in registration ends Monday, July 5 at 4 p.m. at the Pulaski-Eastern Shore Chamber of Commerce, 3044 NYS Rte. 13 in Altmar. Entry fees are $200 for each amateur team, and $400 for each professional team.
