OSWEGO COUNTY - With spectacular fishing, dazzling sunsets, and charming rural villages, Oswego County offers an abundance of outdoor activities to enjoy this fall.

"Fall is a great time to celebrate Oswego County's natural beauty," said Christine Gray, director of the Oswego County Department of Promotion and Tourism. "Our reputation for world-class fishing is well-deserved, and our rivers and streams are packed. We also invite you to visit our village festivals, pick fresh apples from our many orchards, and explore miles of trails."

The County Department of Promotion and Tourism has compiled a complete list of events and attractions, available online at www.oswegocounty.com/tourism Here are a sample to choose from:

Old Home Days: Sept. 4 and 5 at the Redfield Fire Station. Festivities take place Saturday from noon to midnight, and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Parade Saturday at 6 p.m. followed by live entertainment. Sunday, a memorial service will be held for Oswego County firefighters at 10 a.m. The Salmon River Boys will perform from 1 to 4 p.m. Throughout the weekend there will be a variety of games and chicken barbecue to enjoy. Salmon River Festival: Saturday, Sept. 11,10 a.m. to 4 p.m., throughout the Village of Pulaski. Bring the entire family. Children's events, music, arts and crafts, races, contests, prizes. Admission is free. For more information call 298-5118.

Fulton Garage Sales: Saturday, Sept. 11, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Spend a day browsing at garage sales held throughout the City of Fulton. Admission is free. For more information call 592-7330.

Nature Walk and Talk with Nancy Kaiser: Sunday, Sept. 12 at Mexico Point State Park from 2 to 4 p.m. As you walk along the trails you'll learn more about your surroundings including wild edibles that are native to the area. Wild Women of the Wilderness Weekend: Sept. 16 to 19 at Selkirk Shores State Park. Women have the opportunity to build outdoor skills in 15 different activities. Speakers include National Geographic photographer/filmmaker Mark Emery and NY's best-known naturalist "Wildman" Steve Brill. Admission is $125 per person. Fulton YMCA Triathlon: Saturday, Sept. 18 at the Fulton War Memorial, starting at 9 a.m. The triathlon includes an 8K run, biking for 20 miles, and a 4-mile kayak/canoe event. Salmon River Hatchery National Hunting & Fishing Day Open House: Saturday, Sept. 25, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The NYSDEC Salmon River Fish Hatchery is located on County Route 22 in Altmar. Learn about the fishing, hunting, and outdoor recreation opportunities in the Salmon River Greenway. There will be hands-on programs geared toward family participation including fishing instruction, fly tying, and fly casting, canoeing and kayaking. Salmon fishing seminars. Children can enjoy stream ecology along with a fish petting zoo. Admission is free. For more information call 298-7605.

21st Annual Lioness Club of Central Square Apple Festival: Sept. 25 and 26 at Goettel Community Park, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. In addition to apples enjoy arts and crafts, live entertainment, rides, face painting, and children's games. Central New York Great Pumpkin Fest: Oct. 2 and 3 at Washington Square Park in Oswego. Festivities take place Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be giant pumpkins, entertainment, crafts, rides, games, and food. Admission is free. Bonfire on the Beach: Saturday, Oct. 9 at Mexico Point Park from 7 to 9 p.m. Enjoy singing and storytelling around the campfire plus free marshmallows. Admission is free. For more information call 963-3891 or 963-8216.

Kid's Halloween Hayride and Costume Party: Saturday, Oct. 16 at the Sandy Pond Sportsmen's Association, from 1 to 4 p.m. There will be door prizes, costume prizes, and food. Admission is free. For more information call 387-6310.

Antiques, Bottles & More Show and Sale: Sunday, Oct. 17 at the Scribal Fire Station from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Empire State Bottle Collectors Association presents the 6th Annual Show and Sale.
