Oswego Harborfest Named a 'Top 100 Event' for 2005
OSWEGO, NY -- The American Bus Association (ABA) has named Harborfest a "Top 100 Event in North America" for 2005. The popular festival was selected from among hundreds of nominated events from across Canada and the United States.
The association's annual list of Top 100 Events serves as a guide to professional tour planners, travel writers, visitor bureaus and the general public for the upcoming year.
"We are proud to once again be named a Top 100 Event in North America by the American Bus Association," said Michael Redding, Harborfest's Executive Director. "Each year Harborfest brings to central New York more than 100 choices of admission-free entertainment including nationally-known recording artists, a world-class fireworks spectacular, and, for the first time this past July, an admission free air show. Harborfest cannot happen without the support of our members and corporate sponsors who provide the financial support necessary to continue to bring our 300,000 visitors the best in entertainment and events."
The Oswego County Department of Promotion and Tourism, an American Bus Association member destination marketing organization, nominated Harborfest to the New York State Division of Tourism. "We're receiving repeated business from motor coach operators bringing tourists to Harborfest. This distinction helps to promote Oswego County as a tour destination," said Christine Gray, Director of the Oswego County Department of Promotion and Tourism.
This is the third time Harborfest has received this distinction. The festival was named an American Bus Association Top 100 Event in 1996 and 1998. The festival has also earned nine International Festivals and Events Association Pinnacle awards for excellence.
Other "Top 100 Events" selected for 2005 include the Benjamin Franklin Tercentenary, Branson Fest, Virginia Beach Neptune Festival, along with the Saratoga Festival and Dressage.
The association's Top 100 Events in North America receive significant media attention including mentions in USA Today and on CNN. The ABA publishes 10,000 copies of its Top 100 Events booklet, featuring profiles of the winners which are sent to all ABA members plus thousands of travelers worldwide. A complete list of winners can be found on the American Bus Association website, www.buses.org.
