County Board Okays Additional Voting Machine for SUNY Oswego Student Voters
OSWEGO - Thanks to an agreement between the Oswego County Board of Elections, the SUNY Oswego Student Association, and the Town of Oswego, a voting machine will be located at Hewitt Union on the SUNY Oswego campus for the Nov. 2 General Election.
College students that are registered on campus will be able to vote at the Hewitt Union poll site. They will be listed in the poll book for the campus site if their address is 7060 State Route 104, and includes the name of the dormitory where they live. All polling sites for the General Election will be open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
The site was moved several years ago, due to legislative redistricting and considerations on accessibility for town residents. The SUNY Student Association is paying the additional cost of the machine and the poll workers.
"We are very glad this year that all parties could come to an agreement and an opportunity to better encourage voter participation was reached," said Election Commissioner William Scriber. "This has always been our aim."
Election Commissioner Donald Wart added, "This year allowed the Board of Elections to add a voting site as the number of registered voters exceeded the number that could be handled by one machine. It was our decision to add a machine to accommodate the college."
Oswego County residents can find out their polling place by checking the Board of Elections website at http://www.oswegocounty.com/election/index.html.
