Enjoy the Holidays in Oswego County
OSWEGO - Communities in Oswego County will be bustling with activity this holiday season. A complete list of winter events can be found in "Winter in Oswego County Calendar of Events" produced and distributed by the Oswego County Department of Promotion and Tourism.
Christine Gray, director of the County Department of Promotion and Tourism, said there are many festivities and unique shopping opportunities available in Oswego County. Following is a sample of events you and your family can enjoy.
Annual Poinsettia Open House will be held Nov. 28 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Oliver B. Paine Greenhouses near Fulton. See thousands of blooming poinsettias and a 12-foot-tall poinsettia tree. Enjoy live holiday music by local recording artist Dan Duggan on his hammered dulcimer. Refreshments will be served. Admission is free. For more information call 592-2773.
City of Oswego Children's Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Nov. 28. at the Oswego City Hall Civic Plaza. There will be a live Nativity scene and performance by the Oswego Valley Snowbelters Barbershop Chorus. At 6 p.m. see the lighting of the city tree and menorah. There will be poetry readings by fourth, fifth and sixth grade students. Santa will visit with the children. Admission is free. For more information call 342-8059.
Annual Parade of Trees Contest in Fulton takes place daily from Nov. 29 to Dec. 10 at the Pratt House Museum in Fulton. Christmas trees are decorated in various themes by local non-profit groups and organizations. Visitors at the museum can vote for their favorite trees weekdays from 1 to 5 p.m., Saturdays from 1 to 4 p.m., and Sundays from 2 to 4 p.m. Cash prizes donated by local businesses will be awarded. Along with the trees, see beautiful Christmas greens and collectibles at the Pratt House Museum. Admission is free. For more information call 598-4616.
The History Shoppe will be open Dec. 2 through Dec. 5 in the Artists Palette on West First Street, Downtown Oswego. Shoppe hours are Thursday and Friday from 3 to 7:30 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The H. Lee White Marine Museum, Richardson-Bates House Museum, Fort Ontario, Safe Haven Museum and the Heritage Foundation of Oswego have organized the shoppe to provide unique gifts in a historic atmosphere. While shopping enjoy old photos, traditional music, costumes, roasted nuts and old time candies. Admission is free. For more information call 342-0480.
Olde-Fashioned Oswego Christmas will be held Dec. 4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Oswego Community Christian School. Over 50 vendors of antiques, collectibles and crafts will help you complete your holiday gift list. There will be live entertainment. Lunch and desserts will be available. Christmas Open House will take place Dec. 4 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Mexicali Rose in Mexico. There will be free drawings and refreshments. For more information call 963-8390.
Ski and Winter Recreation Sale will be held Dec. 4 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Sandy Creek High School. Used and new equipment will be available. You can bring goods to sell. Admission is free. For more information call 298-6993.
Tree Lighting with Santa takes place Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. at the West Monroe Historical Society. Santa will arrive on a West Monroe Volunteer Fire Department fire truck to light the town Christmas tree and visit with the children. Admission is free. For more information call 676-7414.
Holiday Greens Sale will be held Dec. 4 and Dec. 5 from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Richardson-Bates House Museum in Oswego. Evergreen wreaths and cedar roping will be sold. The Oswego County Historical Society is sponsoring the sale. Admission is free. For more information call 343-1342.

Open House at the Pratt House Museum in Fulton will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Dec. 5. There will be a Christmas cookie and punch party sponsored by the Friends of History in Fulton. Holiday Gala will take place from noon to 5 p.m. Dec. 5at the D.A. Lodge in Oswego to raise funds for the Oswego County Animal Welfare League. Come and meet pets available for adoption. At 2 p.m. there will be an auction of items donated by area merchants. Throughout the day there will be raffles, "New to You" sales, and refreshments. Admission is $2 or a bag of pet food. Lights in the Pulaski Public Library will be displayed from 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 5. See the Christmas tree and wreath show. There will be musical entertainment and refreshments. Admission is free. For more information call 298-2717.
Light Up Pulaski will be held Dec. 5 from 12:30 to 6 p.m. throughout the village. Entertainment, food, and festive displays help kick off the holiday season. In South Park, there will be entertainment and the lighting of the Memory Tree at 4 p.m. All money received from the memory tree is given to local food pantries. In North Park, the tree lighting will take place at 4 p.m. and is sponsored by the Pulaski Puritan Chapter 159 Order of the Eastern Star. Admission is free. For more information call 298-2213.
Pulaski Historical Society Open House will from 4 to 6 p.m. Dec. 5. Look back in time at Christmas in Pulaski. Refreshments will be served. Admission is free. For more information call 298-5235.
"Christmas at Sea" Open House will be held Dec. 12, 1 to 4:30 p.m. at the H. Lee White Marine Museum in Oswego. Santa will be "shipped in" by U.S. Coast Guard Cutter. Mrs. Claus (Rosemary Nesbitt) will tell holiday tales. Enjoy uniquely decorated trees, holiday music, and homemade cookies. Model trains will be displayed by Oswego Valley Model Railroad Association. Winter Music Concert will take place Dec. 13, from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Hannibal High School Lockwood Auditorium. The Hannibal Senior High Band will perform popular holiday music selections.
