Organizations Have Until April 8 to Apply for AmeriCorps Positions
The AmeriCorps program is accepting applications from Oswego County organizations that wish to apply for a summer AmeriCorps member. The countywide AmeriCorps program is administered by the Oswego City/County Youth Bureau.
“AmeriCorps is a national service program that involves Americans ages 17 and older in results-driven service in their community,” said Kathleen Fenlon, youth bureau director. “Program objectives this year are related to tutoring, out-of-school activities, mentoring and volunteer management.”
Human service agencies, schools, libraries, community-based organizations and municipalities may apply to host an AmeriCorps member.
Summer AmeriCorps members serve 300 hours. They receive a modest living allowance and an education award. Each site pays a local share for the cost of a member position.
Site project applications are now available and must be submitted to the Youth Bureau by April 8. The AmeriCorps Advisory Board will decide where to place members. For an application or further information, contact Kathy Andolina, program coordinator at the youth bureau, phone 349-3451 or 1-800-596-3200, ext. 3451.
