Fire Coordinator Schedules Two Training Classes
The Oswego County Fire Coordinator's Office is sponsoring two training classes for firefighters this spring.
Instructors Jack Cottet, Al Heath, Gary Forbes and Rich Duvall will teach "Firefighter I" at 7 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday evenings April 21 through June 30 at the Oswego County Airport, Route 176, Volney. Classes will also meet three Saturdays.
Firefighter I is the entry level course for firefighting personnel. It includes 78 hours of instruction covering fire department organization, firefighter safety, fire behavior, personal protective equipment, self-contained breathing apparatus, fire extinguishers, building searches and related skills.
Instructors Cottet and Duvall will teach "Scene Support Operations 1R" course at 7 p.m. Thursdays, May 5 through June 30, at the County Airport. Based on the Fire Fighter 1 curriculum, the 27-hour course is designed for fire department personnel who do not fight interior structural fires.
