AmeriCorps Accepts Applications for Summer Positions
The Oswego County AmeriCorps program is currently accepting applications for 10 summer positions. Additionally, there is one 900-hour position available that begins this summer and continues until the end of 2005.
AmeriCorps is a national service program that addresses local needs. Oswego County AmeriCorps focuses on services for children and families. All positions involve working with children at libraries, recreation programs, schools and human service agencies. Applicants must be 17 years of age. There is no upper age limit.
Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED or be in the process of receiving one. Some sites request additional experience or education.Summer sites in Oswego County include APW School District, Cleveland Elementary School, Constantia Library, Constantia Parks and Recreation, Cornell Cooperative Extension, Harborfest, Hillside Children's Center, Michael Maroun Elementary School, Pulaski Public Library, Safe Haven Museum and Sandy Island Beach State Park.
For a 300-hour summer AmeriCorps position, members would receive a living allowance of $1,937. They would also receive an education award of $1,000 at the end of their term of service.
The Fulton CYO will host an AmeriCorps worker in a 900-hour position. The member in will serve until Dec. 31, receive a living allowance of $5,812, and an education award of $2,362.50.
