High School Students Can Sign Up for Youth Court Training
OSWEGO -- The Oswego City-County Youth Bureau will sponsor a training program for new members to the Oswego City-County Youth Court program July 11 through 15 at the McCrobie Building, 41 Lake St., Oswego. Area high school students who will be in grades nine through 11 this fall are eligible to participate.
Youth Court is a Family Court diversion program that is aimed at reducing juvenile delinquency in Oswego County. Students are trained to become judges, defense attorneys, prosecuting attorneys and court clerks. Young people who have been charged with a violation or misdemeanor are referred by local law enforcement officers to court. Youth Court members conduct hearings and decide on the outcome and punishment for each case.
Training will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 11; 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. July 12, 13 and 14; and from 10 a.m. until noon July 15. For more information or to sign up, call the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau at 349-3451 or 1-800-596-3200, ext. 3451, and ask for Dan Reynolds or Brian Chetney.
