Local Bikers to Raise Money for Abused Children in Oswego County

SCRIBA -- The second Bikers Riding Against Child Abuse ride is slated for Saturday, Aug. 20 at the Scriba Fire Station. The event will benefit the Child Advocacy Center of Oswego County, which provides free services to child victims of abuse and their families. Major event sponsors include Wheel-A-Way Motorsports in Fulton, Scriba Volunteer Fire Department, Constellation Energy, Oswego Wal-Mart, and Lindsey Aggregates, Inc.

Pre-registration forms are still being accepted, and it is anticipated that many people will register on the day of the event.

Oswego City Police Chief Alex Zukovsky, a member of the committee that has been working since March to plan this event, has mapped out an 80-mile route through northeastern Oswego County.

Following the ride, participants will return to the Scriba Fire Station for a chicken barbecue, free entertainment, and drawings for raffles and door prizes. The first grand prize is airfare to Orlando, Florida and $200 cash, and the second grand prize is a year's membership to Oswego Health and Fitness. Participants will be entered into these grand prize drawings for every $50 in pledges they receive.

Additional sponsors who donated $100 or more include TransMeridian Airlines, Longley Dodge, Dunkin' Donuts, Price Chopper's Golub Foundation, Huhtamaki Foundation, County Line Choppers, Inkspot Screen Printing, Oswego Health & Fitness, Novelis, Paul's Big M, Warner Physical Therapy, D.A. Services, and the Oswego Chapter of the Star Society Riding Club.

"We are very excited about this event, and are anticipating 150 to 250 participants," said Olivia VanSanford, Director of the Child Advocacy Center. "All of the proceeds from this ride will go directly to child victims of abuse here in Oswego County through free services we provide to families including therapy, victim support, medical examinations, and a child friendly area for law enforcement and child protective investigators to interview children. We are grateful to Frank Clark, the chairman of the event and the other individuals that have worked so hard to make this a success."

Participants are asked to donate $25 per driver and $15 per passenger. All riders will receive an event t-shirt, commemorative pin, barbecued chicken meal, and be entered in door prizes. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. and the ride will begin promptly at 11 am.
