MEXICO -- The Oswego County Department of Social Services will sponsor an informational meeting from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10 at the department's Spring Street office, Mexico for persons who are interested in adopting a child. All children available for adoption through Social Services have been in foster care for a period of time. The children are typically age eight and older and have special needs.
The department offers a five-week pre-certification training program, "Model Approach to Partnerships in Parenting - Group Process Selection," for people who wish to become adoptive or foster parents. The training will be held Saturdays, Sept. 17 through Oct. 15, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Department of Social Services. Attendance at the informational meeting is required in order to enroll in the training. Single and two-parent families may apply to become foster or adoptive parents. Both parents in a two-parent household must attend the training.
