Salmon River Festival Offers Road Race and Family Fun with a Fishing Theme
PULASKI -- The sixth annual Salmon River Festival combines family entertainment, a running race, a poker walk, an arts and crafts show and fly fishing for kids during the day-long event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at North and South Parks in the village of Pulaski.
"Since its inception, the Salmon River Festival offers fun events for the entire family. We showcase the fishing that Pulaski is famous for with a children's casting event, sponsored by Douglaston Salmon Run, family entertainment with the Backyard Circus, Animal Safari, and a reptile exhibit," said Laurie Hobbie, event chairperson. "We are excited about the entertainment scheduled for the festival. Once again, Fritz's Polka Band will start the festival's activities at 10 a.m. and we are happy to have Eddie Goetz and the Silver Spurs playing that day along with Pulaski's own December Shyne," she added.
At North Park, Ontario Health and Fitness sponsors the annual Salmon River Festival road race through the village and town of Richland. Returning for a second year is a poker walk.
During the festival, the Salmon River Fine Arts Center will sponsor a children's area featuring drawing with a fishing theme. They will also sponsor an arts and crafts show across the street from the park at the Ringgold Volunteer Fire Department on Lake Street. Food vendors will also be available during the day.
The winners of the festival's Scarecrow Contest will be announced at 1 pm. Between Sept. 1 and Sept. 9, scarecrows will be appearing through the village of Pulaski and Town of Richland. Scarecrow categories include traditional, youth and group entries. Some of last year's winners were Whistler's Mother scarecrow, Humpty Dumpty scarecrow, mermaids, the pony express, a kayaker scarecrow and a scarecrow group depicting Fritz's Polka Band.
