Oswego County Drug Task Force Members Receive International Award

OSWEGO - Three members of the Oswego County Drug Task Force recently received a "Special Award of Honor" from the International Narcotics Officers Association.

Inv. John Doyle, coordinator of the Oswego County Drug Task Force, said the award is the result of assistance and intelligence information provided during a multi-agency operation which targeted an international marijuana trafficking ring that operated in Oswego and Onondaga counties and other distribution points throughout New York and the northeast.

Because they continue to be involved in undercover enforcement activities, the names of the officers will not be made public.

"We're very proud of the assistance that members of the Oswego County Drug Task Force provided in this operation," said Oswego County District Attorney Donald H. Dodd.

The operation was conducted by members of the Oswego County Drug Task Force, which is comprised of members of the Oswego County Sheriff's Office, Oswego City Police, Oswego State University Campus Police and the state police; the Syracuse DEA Task Force, Onondaga County Sheriffs Office, Syracuse City Police, New York State Police, and Department of Homeland Security.

"This multi-agency operation highlighted the significant amount of high quality marijuana that is produced in Canada and then transported across international borders into the United States. The operation, which ended on the 12th of July 2005, resulted in the execution of 11 search warrants and the arrests of 14 people on various Federal and State charges," said Inv. Doyle. "More than $1.8 million was seized in the operation, along with 15 long guns, 3 hand guns, 32 vehicles and a quantity of marijuana."

The International Narcotics Officers Association is comprised of narcotics officers involved in worldwide drug enforcement activities. The awards were presented in conjunction with the Office of Drug Enforcement Administration of the U.S. Department of Justice.
