Sheriff's Deputy Receives Medal of Honor for Rescue Attempt
Deputy Jeremy L. Plyler was presented the Medal of Honor by Oswego County Sheriff Reuel Todd for his brave efforts to rescue a woman whose car sank in the Oneida River. Deputy Plyler dove into the icy waters of the river on Thanksgiving Day, located the vehicle under ten feet of water, smashed open a window, and removed Henrietta Otter from the vehicle. He received a standing ovation from members and guests of the Oswego County Legislature at a ceremony in December. Pictured are members of the Legislature's Public Safety Committee, from left, Legislators Arthur Gearsbeck, Clayton Brewer, Undersheriff Robert Lighthall, committee chairman Thomas Bullard, Deputy Plyler; Sheriff Todd, and Legislators Kevin Gardner, Carl Rusaw and Leonard Ponzi.
