Oswego County Tipping Fee Stickers Will Expire Jan. 31

Oswego County residents are reminded that the gray tipping fee stickers issued last year by the Oswego County Division of Solid Waste will expire Tuesday, Jan. 31.

New tipping fee stickers will be available for purchase at the transfer stations beginning Jan. 17. The new stickers are blue in color and will expire Jan. 31, 2007.

Stickers purchased between January and the end of July cost $75. Stickers purchased on or after Aug. 1 will cost $37.50. Stickers for additional household vehicles will be available for $5 each. Checks should be made out to "Oswego County Solid Waste."

Residents buying a solid waste sticker need to show proof of Oswego County residency and have their vehicle and vehicle registration with them at the time of purchase. The vehicle registration must show the purchaser's household address. Post office box addresses and tax or deed receipts, without additional information, are not acceptable proof of residency. Business vehicles, and vehicles that don't have the purchaser's household address on the vehicle registration, won't be issued stickers.

Residential users may purchase a punch card instead of a tipping fee sticker. Each card costs $15 and is good for 20 kitchen-sized 13-gallon trash bags.

Oswego County solid waste transfer stations and recycling drop-off centers are open Tuesday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon. Sticker sales and weigh scale operations end at 4 p.m. weekdays and 11:30 a.m. Saturdays.

Transfer stations are located at:

  • Bristol Hill, 3125 state Route 3, Volney;
  • 1167 county Route 7, Hannibal;
  • 1391 U.S. Route 11, Hastings;
  • 700 E. Seneca Street, Oswego; and
  • 100 county Route 2A, Pulaski.

Residents have several options for disposing of household garbage:

  • Recycling Sticker: Residents who are not using a tipping fee sticker or punch card are required to purchase a recycling sticker in order to bring their recyclable materials to a transfer station. The residential recycling sticker is $10.
  • Tires: The cost to dispose of tires is $60 per ton, with a $5 minimum scale charge.
  • Appliances: Residents need to purchase a CFC sticker to dispose of appliances containing refrigerant (refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, etc.). The CFC sticker costs $15.
  • Brush and Tree Waste: The cost to dispose of large loads of brush and tree waste or other compostable materials is $20 per ton, with a $5 minimum scale charge.
  • Vehicle Loading Fees: Residents who would like compost or wood chips loaded on their vehicle will be charged $5 for a 2-wheel trailer or 4-wheel vehicle; $10 for a 6-wheel vehicle; and $15 for a 10-wheel vehicle.
  • Construction Waste: Residents may hire a contractor to haul construction waste or they may bring the material to a transfer station and pay $60 per ton. Waste materials that must be weighed are not accepted at the Hannibal transfer station because the Hannibal facility doesn't have scales.

For more information regarding fees or other solid waste programs, contact the Division of Solid Waste, phone 591-9200, weekdays between 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
