Cleveland artist Bob McNamara provides the illustration of a great blue heron for the fourth annual Lake Ontario Bird Festival coloring contest for children age four to twelve. McNamara will lead his popular nature journaling and illustration workshop again at this year’s festival, which takes place Saturday, May 6, at Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park Resort, County Route 16, Mexico.

The coloring contest is co-sponsored by the Oswego County Weeklies newspaper group and the Port Lodge Motel, Port Ontario. The entry form is included in the April 11 and 12, and April 18 and 19 editions of the Oswego County Weeklies newspapers: The Salmon River News, Mexico Independent Mirror, Central Square Citizen Outlet, Phoenix Register, and Oswego Shopper. Entry forms are also available on the Oswego County Web site at www.oswegocounty.com

The deadline to enter is Friday, April 28. Completed entries should be sent to the Oswego County Department of Promotion and Tourism on the third floor of the County Office Building, 46 E. Bridge St., Oswego.

The bird festival is a free family event with several live bird programs, projects for children, nature workshops, educational displays, and a variety of vendors.

“We really appreciate the support of the Oswego County Weeklies and the Port Lodge Motel, and the lovely design by Bob McNamara,” said Betty Green, co-chairwoman of the Lake Ontario Bird Festival organizing committee. “We encourage children to enter the contest and visit the bird festival to see their artwork on display.”

First place winners in the three age groups will receive $50; second place winners will receive $25; and third place winners will receive $10.

The tenth annual Lake Ontario Bird Festival is sponsored by the Town of Mexico, Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park Resort, Oswego County Department of Promotion and Tourism, Caraccioli and Associates, Constellation Energy Nine Mile Point, Eastern Shore Associates, Eddie’s Big M, Hiscock and Barclay, LLP, New Haven Building Supply, North Country Veterinary Services, Oswego County Weeklies, Port Lodge Motel, Price Chopper, Redwood Motel, and Stewart’s Shops.
