2006 Will Be a Festive Summer in Oswego County
OSWEGO COUNTY -- From fishing tournaments to fireworks, fairs, and historic re-enactments, Oswego County offers a packed schedule of activities for families to enjoy this spring and summer. The Oswego County Division of Promotion and Tourism has compiled a list of more than 100 events in its new spring and summer events brochure.
“Summer in Oswego County is memorable for its beautiful sunsets, Harborfest, and great fishing,” said Christine Gray, director of Promotion and Tourism. “This summer we’re also celebrating the 250th anniversary of the French and Indian War at Fort Ontario in Oswego. Reenactments at the fort -- and hundreds of other things to do -- are all listed in our new calendar of events.”

Following is a sample of events this summer:
Fulton’s Memorial Day Salute Friday and Saturday, May 26 and 27, features live entertainment by the Cobblerockers, Sam and the Twisters, and Herman’s Hermits with Peter Noone at the Fulton Community Center on West Broadway. Memorial Weekend at the Phoenix VFW on Culvert Street will take place Saturday through Monday, May 27 through May 29. Parade is Monday at noon. Free admission. Call 695-1308 for more information.
The Caughdenoy/Central Square Memorial Day Parade starts at 10 a.m. Monday, May 29, with a fun fair to follow at the Caughdenoy United Methodist Church, corner of county Routes 12 and 37, from 11 a.m. to noon. Call 668-2973 for more information. Admission is free.
Oswego County Hospice Cup Regatta is Saturday, June 3, from Oswego Harbor. The regatta is from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Race for Hope 5K Walk/Run and on-shore family events at Breitbeck Park, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. For regatta registration, admission fees or more information call 343-9459. Oswego County ATV Club Trade Show, Crafts and Flea Market, featuring a 4-wheel rodeo and barbecue, takes place Saturday and Sunday, June 10 and 11, at the Town House Restaurant, 469 state Route 13, Williamstown. The 149th Oswego County Fair is Thursday through Tuesday, June 29 through July 4, at the Sandy Creek Fairgrounds, 291 Ellisburg St., Sandy Creek. Annual agricultural fair features farm and other exhibits, horse races, demolition derbies, rides, local history and genealogy, and fireworks. An Old-Fashioned Country Carnival takes place Saturday, July 1, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Washington Square Park, East Fourth and Bridge streets, Oswego. Features rides and games with craft sale held in historic railroad tunnel. Admission is free. The annual Independence Day Parade will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 2 on Bridge Street, Oswego. Brewerton Fireworks over Oneida Lake are from 9 to 10 p.m. Monday, July 3, between U.S. Route 11 and I-81 at the west end of the lake. Sponsored by Fort Brewerton/Greater Oneida Lake Chamber of Commerce.

The British will invade Mexico at a Revolutionary War British Encampment Saturday and Sunday, July 15 and 16 at Mexico Point Park, off state Route 104B. Drills, camp life and musket firings will commemorate the important campaign of 1777 and the exploits of scout Silas Town. The weekend closes Sunday evening with a concert at 5:30 p.m. featuring Deirdre and Jim McCarthy and Eddie Goetz and the Silver Spur, followed by fireworks. Call 963-3891. Free admission.
Harborfest 2006 takes place Thursday through Sunday, July 27 through 30, in Oswego.
