Camp Hollis Hosts Second Annual 'Building Sound' Workshop for Creative Teens

Camp Hollis will resonate with the sounds of creative teens this Spring, as Project X, in collaboration with Friends of Camp Hollis, holds its second “Inventing Sound” program.
“Inventing Sound 2007: Speak out!” will be held the weekends of April 28 and 29 and May 5 and 6 at Camp Hollis, the Oswego County park located on the shore of Lake Ontario in the Town of Oswego.
Led by Project X guides Gina Holsopple and Matt Woods, Inventing Sound brings participants ages 13 to 16 from all of Oswego County together for two weekends of finding, creating, and using “instruments” and sounds. Sound tracks will be created and reproduced on a CD.
A $25 fee will cover the cost of the program, lodging, food, and a finalized copy of the CD recorded during the event. Last year's session generated sounds from a mall, a storm, a circus, “jam sessions” and spoken pieces, blended with sounds produced by a 55-gallon plastic drum, scrap metal, containers from the recyclables bin, and participants' voices.
“Project X provides programs to build approaches for more safe, healthy and effective lifestyles through personal growth, self-expression and positive communication,” said Holsopple.
Camp Hollis is owned and operated by the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau and provides a summer residential camp as well as a variety of special programs for Oswego County residents.
The Inventing Sound project is made possible with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts Decentralization Program, administered by the Cultural Resources Council.
