Camp Hollis Open House May 12
The Friends of Camp Hollis will host an open house at Camp Hollis from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 12.
“This is a great opportunity to visit the site, ask questions, participate in special activities, and experience a taste of the camping environment,” said camp director Jim Farfaglia.
Owned by Oswego County and operated by the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau, Camp Hollis offers weeklong camping sessions for children ages 9 to 12 during the summer. A mini camp is offered for eight-year-olds. Campers are charged a weekly fee on a sliding scale based on the family's household income. Scholarships are available through Friends of Camp Hollis, and members of the group will be available to answer questions about assistance at the open house.
Camp Hollis also offer special programs for 13- and 14-year-olds, and a counselor in training program for 15- and 16-year-olds.
“Project X” offers valuable lessons in protecting our environment and in outdoor education. Senior citizens love to visit Camp Hollis for its bi-annual camping session and teachers use Camp Hollis as an environmental education classroom.
Visitors to the open house will also have a chance to tour the cabins, hike the trails, and meet previous campers and counselors, directors and administrative staff. Refreshments will be available.
For information call the youth bureau at 349-3451 or 1-800-596-3200, ext. 3451, or by . Registration for the open house is not required and the event will be held rain or shine.
