Arbor Day is April 27

In his Arbor Day proclamation, Legislature Chairman Russ Johnson commended local organizations for their efforts to protect our county's trees and woodlands. Five thousand Norway spruce seedlings will be distributed to elementary school students through the 16th annual “Plant-a-Tree” project, sponsored by the Oswego County Soil and Water Conservation District, Cornell University Cooperative Extension of Oswego County 4-H, Entergy Nuclear Northeast, Oswego County Federation of Sportsmen's Clubs, and International Paper. More than 252 teachers are participating in the project. Each student receives a Norway spruce seedling and planting instructions. Representing the sponsoring organizations are, from left, Jan Smith, 4-H; Legislature Chairman Johnson; Bonnie Bostian, Entergy Nuclear Northeast; and Erica Schreiner, Soil and Water Conservation District.
