Hundreds of children who enter the Lake Ontario Bird Festival's coloring contest will have their artwork displayed May 19 and 20 in the children's activities pavilion at the festival, hosted by Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park, County Route 16, Mexico.
Cash prizes are donated by the Port Lodge Motel, Steve's Body Shop, and the Driftwood Motel. The contest is co-sponsored by the Oswego County Weeklies newspapers again this year. Entry forms are printed in the May 4 and 5, and May 10 and 11 editions of the Oswego County Weeklies newspapers: The Salmon River News, Mexico Independent Mirror, Central Square Citizen Outlet, Phoenix Register, and Oswego Shopper. Entry forms are also available on the Oswego County Web site at www.oswegocounty.com.
First place winners in the three age groups will receive $50; second place winners will receive $25; and third place winners will receive $10. Cleveland artist Bob McNamara provides the illustration of two black-capped chickadees for the contest, which is open to children ages four to twelve.
The deadline to enter is Wednesday, May 16. Completed entries may be mailed or dropped off at the Oswego County Tourism and Public Information Office on the third floor of the County Office Building, 46 E. Bridge St., Oswego.
A special guest at this year's festival is Jonathan Wood and the Raptor Project, one of the world's foremost handlers and rehabilitators of raptors. His program is sponsored by Constellation Energy Nine Mile Point.
