Social Services Department Hosts March 4 Orientation Meeting for
Future Foster and Adoptive Parents
The Oswego County Department of Social Services will sponsor an informational meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, at the agency's Spring Street office, Mexico, for people who are interested in becoming foster or adoptive parents.
The department is looking for people who would like to become foster parents, particularly for children ages 12 and over. Families are especially needed in the Fulton, Hannibal, Central Square and Oswego areas.
All children available for adoption through the Department of Social Services have been in foster care for a period of time. The children are typically age eight and older and have special needs.
Attendance at the informational meeting is required in order to enroll in the “Model Approach to Partnerships in Parenting - Group Process Selection” training. Single and two-parent families may become foster parents or adopt a child. Both parents in a two-parent household must attend the training. The 10-week pre-certification training program for people who wish to become adoptive or foster parents will be held Tuesdays beginning March 11, from 6 to 9 p.m. and will run through May 20. There will be no class on April 15.
