Lake Ontario's Experts to Share Fishing Tips at
Bass Sportsman Center Showcase March 28 - 30

Anglers can get a head start on the season with tips from Lake Ontario's experts at the Lake Ontario Sportfishing Showcase Friday through Sunday, March 28 through 30, at the Bass Pro Shop Sportsman's Center, Fingerlakes Mall, Auburn.

The area's top charter captains and fishing experts will present free seminars throughout the weekend. Hosted by the Bass Pro Shop Sportsman's Center and the Lake Ontario Sportfishing Promotion Council (LOSPC), the event will include a full slate of seminars and product demonstrations by fishing experts, fishing and vacation information, and special exhibits by charter fishing services, tackle manufacturers, lodgings, and campgrounds. Six Lake Ontario fishing charters will be given away during the event.

Capt. Ernie Lantiegne, whose Oswego County-based Fish Doctor Charters landed the winning salmon (24.02 lbs. and 38.14 lbs. respectively) in the Spring 07 and Fall 06 LOC derbies, will share his tips for catching a derby-winning king. Capt. Mike Dumesnil of Walker Downriggers will enlighten anglers with tips and tricks for fishing the Great Lakes. Syracuse author and angler Spider Rybaak will reveal panfish and catfish opportunities on Lake Ontario and its tributaries, and Michael McGrath of McGrath and Associates Carp Angling Services will introduce anglers to carp fishing opportunities on the Oswego River and Lake Ontario. DEC biologist Jana Lantry will open the seminars Friday with a review of the DEC Lake Ontario anglers' survey, and Capt. Frank Campbell of Niagara Region Charters will close Sunday afternoon with tips for small boat spring salmon and trout fishing. Longtime charter captain Mike Johannes of On the Rocks II Charters of Wilson will give a talk on western basin spring salmon fishing on Sunday. Johannes is a previous winner of the Niagara County Lake Ontario Pro-Am Team Tournament.
