Businesses Can Apply for Funds to Train Workers
The Oswego County Workforce New York One Stop Center, located in the County Branch Office Building, 200 N. Second St., Fulton, announces that funding is available to help local businesses upgrade the skills of current employees through customized and incumbent employee training programs.
The One Stop Career Center will host an informational session at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 1, for businesses that may be interested in applying for funding. The informational session will be held at the Oswego County Workforce New York Career Center, 200 N. Second St., Fulton.
Funding for this training is provided through the Federal Workforce Investment Act. The training funds are intended to upgrade employee skills to match the skills needed in the workplace. Training can be designed for individual employers or for groups of employers with similar training needs.
The training must be occupationally-based. Examples of training funded in the past include lean manufacturing, best practices for machine lubrication; basic Windows and network navigation; hydraulics training and system troubleshooting, and industry specific certifications.
The training is intended to increase employee skills and wage levels while helping businesses increase profitability and competitiveness. Local businesses that have benefited from customized training services include Novelis, Fulton Tool, and the Roth Insurance Agency.
“Novelis has taken part in the customized training grant through Oswego County Workforce NY and we are very pleased with the service,” said Katie Schlagter of Novelis - Oswego Works. “The grant was beneficial in further enhancing the skills of our employees resulting in an improvement to our competitive position as a company. We encourage other employers to take advantage of this opportunity.”
