Health Department Will Hold Rabies Clinic in Volney July 16

VOLNEY - Oswego County residents can have their pets vaccinated against rabies at the county Health Department's rabies clinic Wednesday, July 16. The clinic will be from 6 to 8 p.m. at the County's Bristol Hill Solid Waste Facility on state Route 3.

All puppies, kittens, and pet ferrets are required by New York State law to have their first rabies vaccine by four months of age. A second vaccination is required within a year, and every three years thereafter. Pet owners should bring their pet's last rabies certificate to the clinic.

Dogs must be leashed and cats or ferrets must be enclosed in a crate. The health department suggests a $5 donation per animal to help cover the cost of the clinic. County residents are reminded that anytime a person or pet comes in physical contact with a wild animal, the incident should be reported to the health department as soon as possible. A bite or scratch on the skin should be washed immediately with soap and water.

For more information, call the health department weekdays at 349-3564 or 800-596-3200, ext. 3564. In an emergency during evenings, weekends, or holidays, call the health department's answering service at 341-0086.
