Region’s Premier Anglers Return for Oswego County’s 14th Annual Pro-Am Event
Lake Ontario’s top professional and amateur anglers will be vying for thousands of dollars in cash and merchandise prizes when Oswego County’s 14th annual Pro-Am Salmon and Trout Team Tournament takes place July 12 and 13 out of the ports of Oswego and Mexico. The tournament is the third in a four-county series on Lake Ontario.
The series launched in Niagara County May 31 and June 1; moved to Orleans County June 7 and 8; and will conclude July 19 and 20 in Wayne County.
“The Oswego County Pro-Am Salmon and Trout Team Tournament has a great history as a quality event that brings many benefits to the community as well,” said Dave Turner, organizing committee chairman and director of the Oswego County Department of Community Development, Tourism and Planning. “Our 2008 event promises to continue that tradition. We’re looking forward to welcoming back old friends and enjoying the benefit of unified rules, a common prize structure and enhanced sponsorships.”
Tournament applications and rules are posted online at www.lakeontarioproam.net, and are available from the Oswego County Tourism Office at 315-349-8322. The deadline for walk-in applications is noon Monday, July 7, at the Oswego County Tourism Office, 46 E. Bridge St., Oswego. For information send an to Dave Turner .
“This tournament is just one indication of the world-class fishery that Oswego County offers,” said Turner. “Last year the Pro Am series drew contestants from 10 states and 3 countries and of the 4 tournament sites boats fishing the Oswego County event consistently had the largest catches.” Participants in the Pro-Am series represent many of the top amateur lake fishermen and the very best of the charter captains and guides from throughout the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic and Great-Lakes regions. For those who enjoy the extra thrill of the Challenge Cup, the Eastern Cup competition starts here in Oswego, and begins the third leg of the lake-wide Challenge Cup competition.
Tournament registration is $500 for professional teams and $250 for amateur teams. Weigh-ins will begin at noon at the tournament headquarters tent behind the Best Western Captain’s Quarters Hotel on East First Street, Oswego. All teams must be in the weigh-in line by 3:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The awards ceremony will be Sunday afternoon beginning at 4 p.m.
