Peter Wise Lake Guardian Visits Oswego
The U.S. EPA's 180-foot research vessel, the R/V Peter Wise Lake Guardian, visited the port of Oswego as part of its exploration of Lake Ontario geography and natural resources. The week-long program is sponsored by New York Sea Grant and the Center for Ocean Sciences Education Excellence (COSEE) Great Lakes. It has taken the crew from Youngstown, Ohio to Clayton, NY with stops in Toronto, Canada; and Rochester and Buffalo, New York in addition to Oswego's visit.
The Environmental Protection Agency’s research vessel, the Peter Wise Lake Guardian, recently docked in Oswego for a tour of the Eastern Lake Ontario shoreline along with the Salmon River Fish Hatchery. Fifteen teachers and environmental educators are aboard to work alongside federal researchers as they perform field exercises and collect data to monitor the Great Lakes. Pictured is sixth-grade science teacher Kenneth Huff from Buffalo, NY.
