OSWEGO - Children and adults can learn more about local mental health services and take part in kite-flying, a wellness walk, and other activities Saturday, May 9 to celebrate May as Mental Health Month at Breitbeck Park in Oswego.

A kite-flying event takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Materials will be provided for people to make their own kites and then fly them at the park. The kite-flying activity is sponsored by Families with Attention Deficit Disorder and Serious Emotional Disturbance (FADD).

From noon to 3 p.m., there will be a wellness walk, craft and bake sale, games and other activities to inform the public about mental health services, according to Nicole Kolmsee, Director of Community Services for the Oswego County Division of Mental Hygiene. Several local service providers will take part.

“The event will give people a better understanding about mental health disorders and the importance of mental wellness for all,” said Kolmsee. For more information, call the Oswego County Division of Mental Hygiene at 963-5361.
