Oswego Bookstore Welcomes Camp Hollis Staff for Stories, Songs and Signings
OSWEGO -- The river's end bookstore invites children of all ages to an evening of “Stories, Songs and Signings” from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 21 as Camp Hollis begins its 64th camp season. The bookstore will host members of the 2009 Camp Hollis staff who will provide a sample of programs from the popular summer camp. Visitors to the river's end bookstore will be treated to some favorite camp songs and legends such as the George Hollis story.
Located in the town of Oswego on Lake Ontario, Camp Hollis is owned by Oswego County and operated by the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau.
“Camp Hollis offers a week of traditional camp fun including nature walks, arts and crafts, swimming and sports,” said Vicki Mather, president of the Friends of Camp Hollis. “We appreciate the river's end hosting this fun event to give Oswego County residents a chance to meet the staff and learn more about the program.”
Jim Farfaglia, co-author of the newly-published “Camp Hollis: The Origins of Oswego County's Children's Camp,” will sign copies of the book during the evening. The book features photographs and anecdotes from the camp's early days and tells the unique story of how Camp Hollis has served Oswego County children since its inception.
A portion of the proceeds book sales during this event will be donated to The Friends of Camp Hollis. The not-for-profit Friends group provides scholarships to help families in need send their children to the camp.
Parents interested in sending their children to Camp Hollis will be able to learn more about this summer's many programs and pick up an application to register their children at the event.
