FORT DRUM -- Thanks to the generosity of several local businesses and tourism attractions, Oswego County was well-represented at this spring's Women's Conference sponsored by the Officers Spouses Club at Fort Drum.
For the past two years the Oswego County Tourism Office has participated in the conference by coordinating donations of gifts baskets and providing marketing materials to the Fort Drum community.
“This effort helps to make the soldiers and their families at Fort Drum more aware of Oswego County's fantastic recreational resources,” said Janet Clerkin, Tourism and Public Information Coordinator for the county Department of Community Development, Tourism and Planning. “The support we have received from our local tourism partners is both humbling and gratifying. Several organizations stepped forward to donate valuable gift certificates, coupons and other items.”
All proceeds will be distributed by the Officers Spouses Club to projects that benefit children and families at Fort Drum.
“The weekend was a huge success and the three baskets donated from Oswego County had lots and lots of raffle tickets in their bags when I went to pull the winners!” said Heather Sutton, chair of the Officers Spouses Club fundraising committee. “I cannot thank you and Oswego County enough. I am already starting to get excited about 2010!”
