Your Photos Could be Featured in the Next Oswego County Visitor's Guide

A photo contest is already underway for the county's next visitor's guide. This contest, held by the Oswego County Promotion and Tourism Office, will feature the winning photos in the new Oswego County Visitor's Guide due out in early 2010.

Over 80,000 copies of the Oswego County Visitor's Guide will be distributed to trade and travel shows, sports shows, travel information centers, festivals, events, businesses and individuals throughout the next two years.

“We're looking for a fresh new way to approach our Visitor's Guide,” said Janet Clerkin, tourism and public information coordinator. “We want visitors to see real people enjoying real experiences in Oswego County.”

“There is no limit to the number of winners we will feature. If we have 40 outstanding photos we will use all 40,” added Jessica Burt, public information officer, “and to get outstanding photos you don't have to be a professional photographer. We're just looking for photos that capture the beauty and outdoor recreational opportunities in the county.”

The tourism staff members will judge the contest. Judges will look for images that feature Oswego County's: history; animals and agriculture; art, music and theater; family fun (including festivals, events, golf, bowling, racetracks, etc); fishing and hunting, more fun in the outdoors (parks, beaches, trails, boating, hiking, biking, skiing, snowmobiling, etc); camping; accommodations; dining and restaurants; shopping and antiques; and other attractions.

“All winners will receive a prize,” said Clerkin. “We are reaching out to local businesses for donations. We have already received some generous responses.”

In addition to the winning photos being featured in the visitor's guide, all submitted photos will be featured on the new Oswego County Facebook page, which you can check out by visiting www.facebook.com/visitoswegocounty.

The contest is open to residents and non-residents, as long as the photos are taken in Oswego County. Each person can submit up to five photos, in color or black and white. Only digital photos will be accepted.

Deadline for the photo contest is 5 p.m. Wednesday, September 30. Winners will be notified shortly after.

For complete rules and submission forms, call the Tourism Office at 315-349-8322, or visit our website at www.visitoswegocounty.com.
