Catch Fish and Win Prizes at the Fall LOC Derby
It's not too late to register for the 2009 Lake Ontario Counties (LOC) Fall Derby held August 21 - September 7. The derby, which is open to all counties across Lake Ontario, can be entered by anyone, professional or beginner.
Dave Turner, director of Oswego County Community Development, Tourism and Planning, thinks those fishing out of Oswego County have an advantage.
“Throughout the years, a high percentage of winning fish during the fall derby have been caught in Oswego County,” he exclaimed.
The derby has a $52,800 guaranteed cash payout with a grand prize of $20,000. There are cash prizes for each division which include salmon, lake trout, rainbow/steelhead and brown trout, and daily prizes for the biggest fish each day of the event.
“There are two things that set this tournament apart from others,” said Turner. “The first being how easy it is to enter. You can sign up to fish one day during the tournament or fish the entire week. You can fish with a friend or enter the fish you catch on a charter fishing trip.”
“Another great aspect of this tournament is that the youth can get involved,” said Turner. “Anyone between the ages of 10 and 16 can enter the youth category and be eligible for trophies in each division as well as all money prizes awarded during the derby.”
