AmeriCorps Organizes Events for Oct. 24 'Make a Difference Day'
OSWEGO -- The Oswego AmeriCorps program will host three events Saturday, Oct. 24, for Make a Difference Day. Make a Difference Day is an annual day of service that brings communities together. The program is organized each year by USA Weekend and the Hands On Network.
Volunteers may give blood at a Red Cross blood drive at the Oswego YMCA's Armory Building, 265 W. First St., from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. by appointment. To make an appointment, call the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau at 349-3451. Donors will receive a free 12-inch cheese pizza with proof of donation, courtesy of Cam's Pizza.
Families and children are invited to rake leaves at the Richardson-Bates House Museum, 135 E. Third St., from 1 to 3 p.m. Volunteers should bring their own rakes.
Finally, volunteers may visit Housing Visions, formerly known as Oswego Hamilton Homes, 96 Hamilton St., from 1 to 3 p.m. and participate in Halloween-themed activities with children. There will be a haunted house, reading, crafts and free t-shirts for kids who sign-up. The Oswego City-County Youth Bureau and the New York State Office of Children and Families are helping to sponsor this event. Children and families are welcome to participate as well.
