New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Announces Fortino Clean-Up Complete in West Monroe

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) recently announced that clean-up at the Fortino site in West Monroe is now complete. With an estimated 11.4 million waste tires, this was the largest tire dump site in New York. Nearly all the tires removed were recycled for other uses such as landfill liners and road construction materials. This project was part of a clean-up plan developed by the DEC to comply with the Waste Tire Management and Recycling Act. Several local officials were at hand for the announcement.
