AmeriCorps Accepts Applications for Summer Positions
Oswego County AmeriCorps is accepting applications for summer positions. AmeriCorps members get paid while learning valuable skills and earning money for college.
"Across our country, AmeriCorps members assist their local community with education, environment, public safety and other human needs," said Kathleen Andolina, AmeriCorps program coordinator for the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau. "Members have the opportunity to make a difference in Oswego County. Locally, our AmeriCorps Program focuses on services for youth."
Oswego County AmeriCorps is currently accepting applications for 300-hour summer positions at libraries, recreation programs, museums and human service agencies. Applicants must be at least 17 years of age and have a high school diploma or GED or be in the process of receiving one. There is no upper age limit. Some sites are looking for applicants with additional experience or education.
Summer sites in Oswego County include Fulton CYO, H. Lee White Marine Museum in Oswego, Housing Visions Consultants, Safe Haven Museum, Sandy Creek Recreation and Schroeppel Community Services.
For a 300-hour summer AmeriCorps position, members will receive a living allowance of $1,973 and an education award of $1,000 at the end of their term of service.
"In the past, the summer AmeriCorps positions have been very attractive to college students, as they provide hands-on experience in addition to the stipend and educational award," said Andolina.
For applications and additional information call Andolina at the Oswego City/County Youth Bureau, weekdays at 315-349-3451 or 1-800-596-3200, extension 3451. The member application can be downloaded at oswegocounty.com/forms/youth/application.pdf
