Urgent Warning - Salmon River Flows!
Urgent Warning - Salmon River Flows! Due to heavy rain and related emergency river operations, higher than normal flows will occur from the dam in Altmar upstream of the DEC Fish Hatchery through Pulaski to Lake Ontario. Follow all local warnings, be alert and use extreme caution and avoid recreation in or near the river until further notice.
This announcement is from Brookfield Renewable Power, which operates the hydro stations on the Salmon River. The overnight rains have caused higher than normal levels on the reservoir at Bennetts Bridge, and at 1 p.m. Brookfield will be releasing excess water from the dam. This will affect fishermen and recreational users in or near the Salmon River.
Law enforcement agencies in the area - Oswego County Sheriff's Department, Pulaski Police Department, and New York State Police - are now notifying people along the river from Lake Ontario to Bennetts Bridge.
