Oswego County Plans Aerial Spraying This Week

Oswego County Public Health Director Dr. Dennis Norfleet announced today that the health department is preparing to conduct aerial spraying to control Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) in Toad Harbor and Big Bay swamp by the end of the week.

Depending upon weather conditions, spraying could take place on Thursday, August 5. The application would take place between 6 and 9 p.m. In the event of bad weather, rain dates will be on Friday, August 6 or Saturday, August 7. The actual date will be announced to the public through the news media.

The area will include about 10,000 acres in the Toad Harbor and Big Bay swamps north of Oneida Lake. The area is bordered by U.S. Route 11 in Central Square to the west, NYS Route 49 to the north, the village of Constantia to the east, and the shoreline of Oneida Lake to the south. Spraying will not take place over the waters of Oneida Lake.

The material to be used will be Masterline Kontrol 30-30 Concentrate, which is manufactured by Onivar USA of Austin, Texas. A copy of the pesticide label, including all warnings, can be found on the Oswego County Web site at oswegocounty.com or by calling 315-349-3564.
