Youth Bureau Will Award Mini Grants for Youth Projects
The Oswego City-County Youth Bureau has limited funding available for a final round of the 2010 mini-grant program. Funding will be awarded to not-for-profit community organizations that provide non-sectarian activities for youth during hours when school is not in session. Mini-grant funds are also available for projects that address the needs of at-risk youth and/or address risk issues youth experience.
In the past, the youth bureau has awarded grants for a range of activities serving youth throughout Oswego County. Past examples include funding for interactive educational competitions for youth at the Oswego County Fair, after-school workshops that give teens the tools to help them make healthy decisions as part of May Teen Pregnancy Prevention Month activities, funding for children's theatrical plays, activities for the countywide Teen Health Conference, and hosting a speaker at a countywide youth employment summit.
Grant requests may range from $500 to $2,000.
"Mini-grants provide an opportunity for community organizations to work together and come up with creative ways to provide a diverse group of activities that meet the interests of a wide group of youth," said Kathleen Fenlon, director of the Youth Bureau.
Projects must be completed by the end of 2010 and provide a direct service to children and families in Oswego County.
Not-for-profit organizations, including agencies, schools, libraries, municipalities, associations, and churches may apply for funding. Organizations are encouraged to involve youth in the planning and implementation of the project.
Organizations interested in applying for a mini-grant are encouraged to call Brian Chetney or Kathleen Fenlon at the Youth Bureau to discuss their ideas and receive assistance with the application.
