Restaurants and Bars Can Apply for E-Z Bet Terminals
OSWEGO - Oswego County business owners who would like to generate revenue and increase traffic in their business may want to look into hosting an E-Z Bet terminal through the state's Off-Track Betting Corporation, said Ronald Darrow, Oswego County OTB Director.
The program is a relatively new activity offered by Western NY Regional Off-Track Betting. While several restaurants and bars host E-Z Bet terminals in western New York, there are none in Oswego County.
"An OTB E-Z Bet terminal is a self-service vending terminal where patrons place their own bets with a cash voucher and then watch the race on a bank of TV sets," said Darrow. "Patrons present a voucher from the terminal for payout of winnings."
Darrow said the equipment is supplied and installed by OTB. There is minimal cost to the business owner other than providing a small amount of space for the equipment.
Businesses need to file an application and be approved by the NYS Racing and Wagering Board and NYS Lottery. For information on the application process, contact Darrow at 675-8688.
Off-Track Betting operates parlors in Oswego, Phoenix and Central Square. A portion of the winnings is returned to the county. In 2009, Oswego County received $186,952 in OTB revenues. The funds were used to offset county property taxes.
