Child Protection Committee Schedules Community Meetings in April and May
MEXICO - Oswego County's Child Protection Advisory Council is looking for input from the public on issues of child protection in Oswego County. The council, which was formed by the Oswego County Legislature last year, is sponsoring four community forums in April and May.
The Child Protection Advisory Council has adopted the theme "Our County, Our Children, Our Future, Our Responsibility."
"The community is an important element in the protection of our children. We each are responsible to care for our neighbors in a way that reduces the incidence or risk of child abuse or neglect," said Dr. Marshall Marshall, chairman of the Child Protection Advisory Council and superintendent of the Pulaski Academy and Central School District. "We will discuss these issues at the community forums and gather input from the public on their views and suggestions. We will also share information about what people should do if they suspect abuse or neglect, and inform them of the role of the Department of Social Services and its level of authority, limitations, and the roles of other key agencies and providers."
Meetings will be hosted and facilitated by members of the council in four regions of Oswego County. All meetings will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The public is invited to attend any of the meetings at the following locations:
"The Child Protection Advisory Council realizes that the Department of Social Services cannot do its job alone," said Dr. Marshall. "They need help from the public and from the community. It is everyone's responsibility to help keep our children safe from abuse and neglect."
