Oswego County AmeriCorps Announces Openings for Summer Positions

OSWEGO -- Oswego County AmeriCorps is currently accepting applications for summer openings. AmeriCorps members get paid while learning valuable skills and earning money for college.

"Members will have the opportunity to make a difference in Oswego County by providing fitness activities or nutrition education to children," said Kathleen Andolina, AmeriCorps Program Coordinator.

Summer positions are for a 300-hour term of service. These positions will be at libraries, recreation programs, museums and human service agencies. Applicants must be at least 17 years of age. There is no upper age limit. Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED or be in the process of receiving one. Some of the sites are looking for applicants with additional experience or education.

Summer sites in Oswego County include APW Schools, Fulton CYO, Fulton Family YMCA, Greater Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce, Halfshire Historical Society in Richland, Hamilton Homes in Oswego, Mexico Public Library, Mexico Village Freedom Skate Park, Oswego County Historical Society, Oswego YMCA Driving Books Home, Oswego YMCA Skate Park, Pulaski Public Library, and Sandy Creek Recreation.

For a 300-hour summer AmeriCorps position, members will receive a living allowance of $2,072. They will also receive an education award of $1,000 at the end of their term of service that can be used for tuition or student loans.

"In the past, the summer AmeriCorps positions have been very attractive to college students, as they provide hands-on experience in addition to the stipend and educational award," said Andolina.

For applications and additional information, call Andolina at the Oswego City/County Youth Bureau, weekdays at 349-3451 or 1-800-596-3200, extension 3451. The member application can be downloaded at oswegocounty.com/forms/youth/application.pdf.
