OSWEGO - The Oswego County AmeriCorps program will celebrate AmeriCorps Week May 14 to 21.

"AmeriCorps Week provides an opportunity to salute AmeriCorps members for their impact on the lives of children they serve and to thank community partners who make AmeriCorps possible," said Kathy Andolina, AmeriCorps program coordinator for the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau.

AmeriCorps members are working with youth across Oswego County by mentoring them, educating them about good nutrition, and providing fitness activities.

"Since 1997, more than 600 members have served at schools, libraries, museums, recreation programs and human service agencies in our county. Wherever they serve, each AmeriCorps member has an on-site supervisor. Due to the commitment and dedication of these staff at many locations around the county, youth can benefit from the service of AmeriCorps members," added Andolina. "In the last program year, 165 youth were mentored, over 3,500 participated in out of school activities and 831 volunteers contributed 2,600 hours of service to their community."
