OSWEGO - It was a good day in the "outback" for Oswego County Workforce New York as they participated in the "One World, Many Stories" literacy awareness event that was recently held by the Literacy Coalition of Oswego County (LCOC).

Representing the country of Australia, Workforce New York staff members donned a safari motif and transformed their booth into a virtual Aussie wonderland, clad with various literacy-based activities for children and adults.

In addition to promoting literacy, staff members provided information on their many programs and services, including educational testing, computer lab access, training scholarships, supportive services, labor market information and developmental workshops.

"Studies have shown that there is a direct link between literacy and job readiness as well as professional success; creating a long-term partnership between literacy awareness and Oswego County Workforce New York," said Christine Weaver, manager of the One-Stop Center in Fulton.

The event was held at the YMCA Armory in Oswego.
