Oswego County Proclaims November as Runaway Prevention Month

Oswego County recently presented a proclamation designating the month of November as Runaway Prevention Month. At hand were representatives from several local youth services agencies. Pictured from left are Heather Sturges, outreach specialist, Oswego County Opportunities, Inc.; Amy Leotta, youth director, Fulton YMCA; Oswego County Legislature Chairman Barry D. Leemann, District 4; Toni Ross, health educator, Oswego County Opportunities, Inc.; Carryn Carpser, runaway and homeless youth specialist at G. Ray Bodley High School in Fulton, Oswego County Opportunities, Inc.; Kathy Fenlon, executive director of the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau and County Parks and Recreation; and Daniel Sokal, social worker, Oswego County Opportunities, Inc. Each year, more than 300 youth run away or are homeless in Oswego County. Area citizens can help these young people by guiding them toward available resources and empowering them to make safe, healthy and productive choices. If you or someone you know needs assistance, please call the 24-hour Runaway and Homeless Youth Hotline at 1-877-342-7618.
